Talitha Koum's Women's Recovery House

Recovery Residence of the Year

Talitha Koum's Women's Recovery House is a NAR certified level 3 recovery residence that houses 9 women at one time. In it's short two year existence, it has had 39 beautiful women come through their doors. The program was for 90 days but the need has proven greater then that, so they have switched to a 120 day program, but the women are allowed to stay longer on a needs basis. What is more important to this program is the love and family component. These women are lead to have a higher power in their recovery, attend meetings outside and inside the home, to mend family relationships, to have gainful employment, to learn conflict resolution, to engage in sober activities (such as bowling, hiking, camping, etc.), all while learning to forgive and love themselves. The home is successful in part due to the awesome staff and volunteers. From the director, Linda Ostewig, to the case managers - Patti and Rita, and greatly in part due to their house manager - Kara Ostewig, as well as the senior residents who have graduated from the program. They have all been trained in recovery coaching, trauma and crisis, and of course they are all in recovery themselves. This home was gutted from the inside out and completely redone to the beautiful state it is in now and they want the women to experience the same transformation. They want them to have successful, fun loving lives they can be proud of. Talitha's program is unique because they will address the core issues of addiction. They have partnered with those in the community that can offer training and one-on-one counseling. The name, Talitha Koum, is from Syriac language and means "Little Girl Rise Up" and so perfectly fits the mission of what our Recovery House represents.
