Progress House

Recovery Residence of the Year

Progress House is the oldest and largest Recovery Residence in the State, yet they increased capacity at their main facility from 76 men to 94 at their main campus and to 48 at their Next Step Facilities. They are a Level IV House per the NARR (National Alliance for Recovery Residences) standards. Through the end of October 2020 they have served 419 men from 64 different counties.

Progress House became part of Aspire Indiana Health in late 2019. As a result, they now offer a whole health recovery program that includes 12-step workshops, group and individual mental health and x use disorder counseling from licensed therapists, intensive case management, recovery coaching and skills training, primary care medical services, behavioral health coaching, medication assisted therapy, job coaching and employment assistance, and much more, all in a highly structured, safe, sober living environment.

Progress House’s leadership has been recognized locally, at the state level and nationally for their leadership in the Recovery Housing space. Progress House staff members Bennie Williamson, Jimmy Tolgaroglou, and Darrell Mitchell are all individual winners of various Heroes of Recovery awards. Darrell Mitchell, Progress House’s Executive Director is the founder of the INARR (Indiana Affiliation of Recovery Residences), serves as the Vice-President of NARR (National Alliance for Recovery Residences) and has received the Leadership Award presented by IHCDA and the Indiana Affordable Housing Council.

Anne Hazlett, Senior Advisor at the White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy visited Progress House earlier this year and told local newspaper reporters that “Progress House is a model for the state and the nation.” Mitchell was invited to the White House earlier this year to meet with senior officials to discuss expanding Recovery Housing capacity and to present Aspire Indiana Health and Progress House’s Whole Health Recovery Continuum.

Aspire Indiana Health and Progress House are on schedule to open Mockingbird Hill Recovery Center, their 100-bed men’s facility in Anderson Indiana, in March 2021.

During the past year, over 57% of clients have successfully completed Progress House’s program and on average have spent 7½ months in the facility. One of the most impressive accomplishments for Progress House during 2020 is there have been ZERO positive cases of COVID-19!

Progress House is recognized as one of the premier Recovery Residences in Indiana, as well in the United States. Their recently expanded capacity, their new 96-bed facility opening in the Spring of 2021, their advocacy, and leadership at the local, state, and national level make them a worthy nomination for the 2020 Recovery Residence of the Year Award.
