Date & Time

Description

In this session, participants will learn about common impacts of childhood trauma and adversity on youth development as well as research backed strategies for promoting resilience and well-being in children and adolescents exposed to trauma. The presentation and discussion will be framed around the “Four Rs” model of trauma-informed care (SAMHSA, 2014), which describes a trauma informed program, organization, or system as one that REALIZES the widespread impact of trauma and understands potential paths for recovery; RECOGNIZES the signs and symptoms of trauma in clients, families, staff, and others involved with the system; RESPONDS by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into policies, procedures and practices; and seeks to actively RESIST RE-TRAUMATIZATION.
