Dr. Hummer leads the Media and Brain Development lab at the IU School of Medicine, which examines how child and adolescent mental health and brain development are impacted by digital media use. This research combines multiple methods of neuroimaging experimentation with behavioral, neuropsychological, and survey methods. For instance, our lab investigates how virtual reality can be used as a tool in psychiatric care. We also examine how neurodevelopment, impulsivity, and risky decision-making are related to exposure to different forms of digital media during childhood and adolescence.
