Speaker Bio
Naomi Swiezy, Ph.D., HSPP is a Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the Indiana University School of Medicine, having joined the faculty in 1998 after initial service to Kennedy Krieger Institute and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine since 1992. Dr. Swiezy helped lead the development of the Christian Sarkine Autism Treatment Center in her early years at the IU School of Medicine, serving as both Clinical Director and Program Director. In 2004, during time with the treatment center, Dr. Swiezy founded and developed the HANDS in Autism® (Helping Answer Needs by Developing Specialists in Autism) training model, serving as Director since its inception. Dr. Swiezy developed the HANDS in Autism® Center as a means to provide intensive hands-on coaching and training of families and providers working with individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and related disabilities while also facilitating networking, collaboration and support across communities, stakeholders and home, school and medical settings. Despite an emphasis with ASD, the application of behavioral and educational principles has utility and relevance to a range of disabilities, social, communication and behavioral disorders and lifespan issues. Dr. Swiezy specializes in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), staff and caregiver training, and behavioral assessment and treatment of autism spectrum disorder as well as implementation science as a mechanism towards systems change and translating science to practice. She provides consultation, training and direct services across communities, practices and settings statewide and globally, facilitates interdisciplinary and interagency collaboratives across Indiana, serves on numerous local, state and federal committees and presents/publishes widely in the field of autism and behavioral disorders.
